Believe it or not, a short test drive (less than 5 miles) revealed all to be working properly again. I couldn't convincingly say there was BUT the speedo cable appeared a little snagged up with the lever so I dropped that below. Basically, this morning I checked the right hand side from underneath to see if there was anything binding. Thank you all very much for your comments. I'll be speaking to the supplier on Monday as it"s under warranty but any views would be very welcome. There seems to also be quite an oil leak from the unit when the oil is warm - I haven't checked the gearbox oil level but it can't have lost much though in the short time it's been in.

Secondly, what are the likely causes and solutions to this? Sod's law it's not as simple as a faulty solenoid, but it doesn't sound like the solenoid releases when the supply is removed. I've had a look at Buckeye Triumph and some of the other threads on here but would be grateful for some pointers.įirst question I have is can I force the overdrive unit to disengage in someway so that I can at least drive the car (I really need a break before considering taking the box out again - can't face it at the moment). I can't drive the car because I can't use reverse. All the electrics are fine, the solenoid will click in but not release.

It was all working fine for about ten miles then just stopped disengaging. I've just installed a newly reconditioned gearbox and A-type overdrive in my 4A.
